DAZZLE - MULA FEST

El pasado mes de julio fuimos con El Solitario Motorcycle Company al Mula Fest que se celebró en IFEMA, Madrid, los días 12, 13 14 y 15. Este festival reunió tendencias urbanas de graffiti, tatuaje, dance, MBX, skate. Nosotros estábamos muy bien "colocados" en El Garaje. Allí estaban constructores de motos y demás personajes relacionados con el mundo de las dos ruedas como Kristina Fender, dR Hofmann, Maxwell Paternoster, The Pau Speed Shop, Toño Merinero, Kiddo Motor, Radical Ducati, Devil Inside Cycles, CRO, Bonneville Madrid, El Diablo Magazine, Abnormal Cycles entre otros muchos. También se celebró el 2º certamen de Metamorfosis Masiva.

Last june we went with El Solitario Motorcycle Company to Mula Fest, in IFEMA, Madrid, on 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th. This festival put together graffiti, tatoo, dance, MBX, skate and urban trends. We were "high" in El Garaje. There were custom motorcycles builders and other people related with two wheels world like Kristina Fender, dR Hofmann, Maxwell Paternoster, The Pau Speed Shop, Toño Merinero, Kiddo Motor, Radical Ducati, Devil Inside Cycles, CRO, Bonneville Madrid, El Diablo Magazine, Abnormal Cycles. It also took place the 2nd Metamorfosis Masiva competition.

El evento no pudo ser más divertido y el stand de El Solitario MC estaba guapísimo. Maxwell montó un pequeño estudio y pintaba cascos, cámaras y todo lo que le traían para intervenir, verlo pintar en directo aplicando su característico pan de oro fue una gozada. La organización nos dejó montar en moto dentro del recinto y eso es algo muy difícil en los tiempos que corren. También nos dejaron montar MUCHA FIESTA, la música estaba alta, MUY ALTA. El alcohol no faltó gracias a Good For Retro & Classic Motorcycles y Estrella Galicia, que como siempre nos alegran el día. Los chicos de MBX Flatland se unieron a la fiesta y bailaron con sus bicicletas y sin ellas, sobre todo Morgan que nos hizo pasar uno de los momentos más divertidos de la feria. Party couldn't be more fun and El Solitario MC stand was really cool. Maxwell set up a little studio and he painted helmets, cameras and anything people brought to be customized. Watching him painting live, applying his typical golden paper was amazing. Organization let us ride our bikes indoors, and that is really difficult nowadays. Alcohol was around thanks to Good For Retro & Classic Motorcycles and Estrella Galicia, that made our day, as always. MBX Flatland kids joined our party and danced with and without their bikes, specially Morgan who made us have a lot of fun. See document made by the mean eye of Kristina Fender HERE.

El Solitario venía de presentar sus motos en Wheels & Waves en Biarritz, donde nos enseñó las fantásticas Gonzo, Trimotoro, Baúla y La Sal del Diablo. En esta ocasión, además de presentarlas en España junto con Chupito, las estrellas eran tres Honda CG 125cc (Punk, Rock y Black) totalmente transformadas e inspiradas en el camuflaje de los portaaviones de la I Guerra Mundial. Ese tipo de camuflaje se llamaba Dazzle, y consistía no en hacer invisibles los barcos en alta mar, que es imposible, si no en tratar de "romper" la forma de los barcos, pintándolos con rayas diagonales muy contrastadas con el fondo, con colores brillantes y muy saturados, con cierta inspiración cubista. Así impedían que los periscopios distinguieran las dimensiones de los barcos, y diferenciar la proa de la popa, con lo que imposibilitaban calcular el rumbo y la velocidad del objetivo, confundiendo al enemigo. El que desarrolló estas técnicas fue el artista plástico Norman Wilkinson. Se llegaron a hacer hasta 33 combinaciones distintas de este tipo de camuflaje.

El Solitario came from Wheels & Waves in Biarritz where he presented his motorcycles, and he showed us his terrific Gonzo, Trimotoro, Baúla and La Sal del Diablo. In this occasion, besides presenting them in Spain with Chupito, the stars were three Honda CG 125cc (Punk, Rock and Black) totally transformed and inspired in World War I aircraft carriers camouflage. This kind of camouflage is called Dazzle, and involved "breaking" the boats shape, painting them with diagonal stripes really contrasted with the background, with shiny and very strong colors, kind of cubist inspiration. This way they avoid periscopes knew the boat dimension, nor distinguish stern and bow, confusing the enemy about the speed and course of a ship. The one who more developed these techniques was the artist Norman Wilkinson. They made over 33 combinations of this kind of camouflage.

Las llamativas Honditas no buscan camuflarse sino todo lo contrario, y lo consiguen. Pintadas con colores fluor por Lanaspaintshop Custon Painting y con la colaboración de JMKL Handmade en el diseño de la pintura e inspiradas en el camuflaje y en las MBX de finales de los 80, son unas motocicletas con un marcado carácter urbano y uno no puede evitar pensar en ellas sin imaginarse realizando trucos en un half-pipe...(manquetemates), aunque tampoco estaría mal llevárselas a la playa.

The catching Honditas didn't pretend to camouflage but the opposite, and they make it. Painted with fluor colors by Lanaspaintshop Custon Painting and the collaboration of JMKL Handmade on the design of the painting and inspired by camouflage and MBX from the end of the 80's, they are motorcycles with a strong urban character and one can not avoid thinking about them imagining himself making tricks on a half-pipe... (killyourself!), or even taking them to the beach.
